Student Assistance Program (SAP)
What makes a SAP referral?
Academic Concerns
- Significant drop in grades or academic performance
- Those who struggle to perform at grade-appropriate levels
- Students who need additional instructional support and redirection
Behavioral Concerns
- Significant changes in behavior
- Defiance of rules and/or work refusal
- Inappropriate social behaviors such as bullying or displays of aggression
- Issues related to alcohol, tobacco, or other drug use
Social-Emotional Concerns
- Displays of emotional disturbance such asdness and/or anxiety
- Changes in mood, appearance, or interest
- Lack of social group and/or inability to get along with peers
- Recent loss of a family member or friend
- Students who are experiencing a mental health crisis
Attendance Concerns
- Excessive absenteeism
- Consistent Tardiness
- School Avoidance
- Students who are chronically ill
Family Concerns
- Parents who have recently separated or divorced
- Students who are in foster care or considered homeless
- Students who are involved with CYF
4 Phases of the Program
Phase 1
Referral
Anyone is able to refer a student to SAP when they are concerned about their behavior.
Phase 2
Data Collection
The SAP team gathers objective information and data to inform their decision-making process.Parent permission is required to continue the SAP process.
Phase 3
Action Planning
A plan is developed to assist the student in accessing recommended school or community supports. The team may utilize liaison services for an assessment and recommendations.
Phase 4
Follow-Up
Follow-up includes monitoring progress towards goals and checking in with the family, student and referral source. The plan is able to be adjusted as needed.

SCHOOL-BASED OUTPATIENT THERAPY: CLARVIDA & CRISTINA PANACCIONE & ASSOCIATES
Outpatient therapy is provided in a confidential space in all four school buildings. These services are provided through medical insurance.HUMAN SERVICES ADMINISTRATION ORGANIZATION (HSAO)
Deer Lakes partners with the Human Services Administration Organization (HSAO) for a SAP liaison to work with the Student Assistance Program teams. The HSAO staff member screens and connects students to the most appropriate level of care. HSAO also offers behavioral service coordination for adolescents and adults.THE HIGHMARK CARING PLACE
Highmark Caring Place has partnered with the district to promote grief therapy and offer group support in the secondary buildings.CARE SOLACE
A free, confidential service that connects students, staff, and families to mental health providers and substance use treatment matched to their needs regardless of insurance.ALLEGHENY HEALTH NETWORK CHILL MOBILE
This mental health mobile unit visits the elementary schools three times a year to teach students and staff how to practice mindfulness. Each classroom also has its own chill space.STAR CENTER-University of Pittsburgh
The Center’s mission is to provide youth suicide prevention for children and adolescents suffering from depression and or anxiety.WESLEY SPECTRUM FAMILY SERVICES
In partnership with Welsey, the District provides a child and adolescent partial hospitalization program. This program serves children from various school districts with intense mental health and psychological challenges. -

Backpack Initiative to Fight Hunger: Each student participating in this FREE program will receive a bag packed with child-friendly single-serving snacks and easily prepared meals each Friday in your child’s backpack to take home with them.

- This agency can help with past due rent if eligible. If you are in need of this support, please call the contact below. Any financial assistance goes directly to the landlord, so anyone that calls for support needs to be willing and able to share landlord contact information and how much is past due. They help people with this support once in a 12 month period
