Deer Lakes School District selects systems and digital resources that prioritize and protect the privacy of both students and staff. In certain cases, the use of third-party platforms that provide digital content, instructional tools, or interactive learning experiences may require the disclosure of PII(Personally Identifiable Information) to ensure proper functionality.
In accordance with the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), websites must notify parents and obtain consent before collecting personal information from children under the age of 13. The law authorizes school districts to provide this consent on behalf of all students, eliminating the need for parents to provide consent directly to each website or service provider.
It is important to note that COPPA applies only when a covered website or service collects personal information from students. If no such data is collected, COPPA requirements are not applicable.
To further support a safe and compliant digital learning environment, the district employs a global internet filter in conjunction with Securly for consistent monitoring of student devices. Through the centralization of approved resources, the provision of pre-vetted platforms, and the use of advanced monitoring systems, the district reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a secure, professional, and effective digital environment for both students and staff.
