Summer Activities

Summer Activities

You and your children may take advantage of the following summer opportunities!

Kids of Steel

Two young girls

Kids of STEEL is P3R’s free training program that helps motivate kids to get moving, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday. The program is unique – an official race provides a tangible goal for kids to work toward – and currently available in more than 180 schools in western Pennsylvania. As part of this award-winning program, kids complete at least 25 training miles in preparation for a family-friendly P3R event. Then they get to celebrate their hard work and join Pittsburgh’s dynamic running community.

Penn State New Kensington

The local Penn State campus will offer a wide variety of fun activities for children this summer.

Boys and Girls Clubs

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania offers year-round activities for students to learn.

Summer Reading

Summer Reading is offered to Middle School and High School students to encourage students to read, improve their reading skills, and have knowledge of authors. The data conclusively demonstrates that students who regularly read are better academic achievers and, for that reason, summer reading is essential. Contact Mrs. Beaufort for more information at cbeaufort@deerlakes.net.

Credit Recovery

For students looking to recover credits they either failed or missed during the traditional school year, the district partners with two online learning platforms that can be utilized. Read more about each below.
