Deer Lakes Art Students to Participate in “Arts Alive!” at Penn State New Ken
“Arts Alive!” is the theme of the annual student art exhibit, through March 31, in the Art Gallery at Penn State New Kensington. The show is sponsored by the Alle-Kiski Arts Consortium, a group of local educators dedicated to bringing performing and visual artists to area students.

Family Art Night
Family Art Night, held on February 20 at Curtisville Primary Center, was a fun family event for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and incoming kindergarten students. It was sponsored by LPEP and co-chaired Deer Lakes elementary art teacher, Mrs. Kortnie Mackowski.
Snow Make Up Dates at Deer Lakes
The Deer Lakes Board of School Directors approved a revision to the school calendar to include April 17, April 21, and May 2, 2014 as snow makeup days for January 28, January 29 and February 5, 2014 when school was cancelled due to the cold temperatures and/or snow.
PSSA Testing Window
Thanks to the responses from school and district leaders, PDE recognizes the challenges faced with any change to the 2014 testing window. We have decided that there is no perfect solution, so our compromise will be an extension of the PSSA Math/Reading and PSSA Writing testing windows.
Deer Lakes High School Student Artwork is on Display in Harrisburg
Congratulations to Deer Lakes High School art students Elizabeth Mann, Heather Scully, and Gabby Pogel who currently have their artwork on display at the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) building in Harrisburg. The exhibit is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association and displays artwork from children all across Pennsylvania in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Snow Make Up Date at Deer Lakes
The Deer Lakes Board of School Directors approved April 22, 2014 as the snow make-up day for January 7, 2014 when school was cancelled due to the Polar Vortex. School will be in session for all students and staff in the Deer Lakes School District.
"In partnership with the community, the Deer Lakes School District will provide a dynamic, comprehensive educational program and support services necessary to meet the diverse needs of all students in a safe, caring environment, thus enabling them to reach their potential as responsible, productive citizens."
The Deer Lakes School District has been designated as a Tobacco Free Zone. The use of all tobacco products is now prohibited on all Deer Lakes School District grounds and facilities.
