Deer Lakes students competing in Bayer Mentorship Program

WEST DEER, Pa. - Deer Lakes High School students enjoy a vast and diverse curriculum. On any given school day it would not be unusual for a visitor to pass a room of students working on solving a high level math problem, then a few rooms down overhearing another group of young scholars discussing one of Shakespeare's works, and just a few rooms further down the hall you might find yet another group constructing their artistic masterpieces or performing a classical piece of music. However, when it comes to unique learning projects, one group of Deer Lakes students are a step above the rest.

O'Hare Memorial Scholarship

WEST DEER, Pa. - Earlier today, Michael O'Hare announced the creation of the Dody & Stel O'Hare Memorial Scholarship at Slippery Rock University. The $25,700 endowment will be awarded to and divided by the seven Deer Lakes High School graduates from the Class of 2015 who have chosen to attend Slippery Rock University beginning in 2015. Those students are: Zane Adiyeh, Makenzie Herbinko, Marissa Hilinski, Jonathan Kendell, Kaitlyn Maher, Samuel Sack, and Michael Senge. This scholarship honors O'Hare's parents, Dody and Stel O'Hare, who also sent Mike's older brother Patrick to SRU by way of Deer Lakes ('65).

Deer Lakes sweeps SWPA BotsIQ; qualifies for regionals at CalU

WEST DEER, Pa. - Deer Lakes' Bots IQ team smashed and crashed and flipped and crunched the competition, surprising everyone - including themselves - by going a perfect 6-0 against other area high school robotics clubs during the preliminary competition held in March at Butler County Community College. Now they are gearing up to participate in the regional finals April 24-25 at California University of Pennsylvania.

WEST DEER, Pa. - Students in Deer Lakes High School's child development program are hosting the first ever All You Care to Eat Pancake Brunch, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, April 25, 2015 in the school's cafeteria.
